BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
,1 COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
'2 RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED CHANGES IN FEDERAL
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES ACT AMENDMENT

14 WHEREAS, this board has been advised by the Butte County Rice
!5 Growers Association of a proposal to ban the interstate shipment
36 of certain fireworks devices, including exploding shotgun shells;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, such devices are used for and are necessary in the
9 prevention of bird damage to rice fields; and
10 WHEREAS, in the event such devices are not available, the rice
j ll growers will have to use some less humane way of frightening birds
!~12 from the rice fields; and
j13 WHEREAS, the protection of rice production is a primary con-
~!~14 cern in this county, in that rice constitutes the leading crop of
i °',15 the county,

'16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this board respectfully
117 opposes the banning of interstate shipment of exploding shotgun
!'18 shells and other fireworks devices to control bird depredation of
i9 rice fields.
!~20 BE TT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent
':''21 to the Honorable Fred Marler, Senator of the State of California,
22 the Honorable Ray Johnson, Assemblyman, the Honorable George
~!
'23 Murphy, United States Senator, and Allan Cranston, United States
~~24 Senator, and to any other interested person.
x;25 PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County
!'',26 of Butte, State of California, this 18th day of February, 1969,
