BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
1 RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO BOYCOTT OF CALIFORNIA GRAPES
2 WIiIItEAS, in Resolution 68-157, this board went on record it
3 opposition to the attempted boycott of California grapes and now
4 wishes to reaffirm its position; a.nd
6 WHEREAS, this Board is concerned over the attempted
6 boycott of California grapes; and
7 :WHEREAS, there is some commercial grape farming in this
8 county; and
9 WHEREAS, the concept of boycott is manifestly unfair in its
10 application, and in this particular situation the boycott Could
11 result in injury to farmers who are not party to the existing
12 labor dispute; and
13 WHEREAS, this board does not oppose unionization of
14 agricultural workers on a voluntary basis, but does oppose the
15 use of economic sanctions against farm employers to compel their
16 workers to join unions against their desires.
17 NOW, THIItEFORE BE IT RESOLVID by the Board of 'Supervisors
18 of the County of Butte, State of California, as follows:
19 1. That this Board respectfully condemns the attempted
20 boycott on California grapes or any other agricultural product and
2I respectfully requests that those engaged in this practice cease
22 and desist therefrom.
23 2. That a. copy of this resolution be mailed to our two
24 United States Senators and our Congressman with our request that
2g they lend their assistance and persuasive powers to end this
26 boycott.
27 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of May, 1969, by the
28 following vote:
