5 :dHEI:EAS, this board finds that the Personnel Rules in
6 force for the employees of the County of Butte are in need of
7 change,
8 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT IcESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUl'i/RVISO
9 OI' THE COUNTY OF BUTT;; that the Personnel Rules for the employees
10 of the County of Butte are amended as set out in Exhibit ''A~',
lI which is attached hereto and incorporated herein as if set forth
12 in full as to the particular section numbers.
13 PASSED AND A1~OPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the
14 County of Butte, State of California, this 15th day of July
15 196 by the following vote:

EXHIBIT "A"
Section 6.15, entitled "?~IORKING HOURS AND OVL'KTIM~:" of
the Butte County Personnel Rules is hereby amended to read as
follows:
a, Policy, It is the policy of the Board of Supervisors
that overtime work is discouraged; that each department
head arrange the work of his department so that full-
time employees shall normally work not more than normal
departmental work week; that overtime work be held to
a minimum consistent with the efficient performance of
necessary functions; and that overtime work be used
only for emergencies or when temporarily using regular
employees on an overtime basis can be shown to be more
economical than by using extra help. It is recognized
that occasional overtime work may be necessary, and that
in such instances provision should be made to authorize,
keep records, and compensate for such necessary overtime
work,
b. T^Tork Period. The normal work period for each full-
time employee shall coincide with the established 372
hour week. All work authorized in excess thereof shall
be overtime work, The Board of Supervisors may by
resolution establish a longer or different work period
far the performance of specified functions or applicabl e
to a particular employee or group of employees, on a
continuing basis or for specified periods, but all work
performed thereunder in excess of 40 hours per week
shall be overtime work.
c. Authorization for Overtime I•)ork. Overtime work shall
be performed only upon authorization of the department
head or subordinate empowered by him to authorize the
same.

d. Overtime Refined. Overtime is authorized overtime
work of at least one-half hour occurring at the beginning
or end of a work day or shift or any authorized call-
back time.
e. Record of Overtime ?dork and Justification. Each
department head shall keep an accurate record of all
authorized overtime. The actual overtime hours worked
by the individual employee together with justification
for its authorization in each case.
f. Reporting Overtime. Total hours of authorized over-
time for each pay period for each employee shall be
reported on the payroll prelist to the Auditor.
€. Overtime Pay. Except as otherwise provided overtime
shall be at the hourly rate currently applicable to the
employee.
h. Erin e Benefits not Affected b Overtime. Overtime
work shall not be a basis for increasing shift deferential
vacation, or .s:Ck leave benefits, nor shall it be a
basis of. advancing completion of required periods for
probation or salary step advance.
i. Special Provisions for Butte Community Hospital.
Overtime for employees of the Butte Community Hospital
who are subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act, shall
be paid as prescribed by the provisions of the act.
j. Overtime for Call-back. An employee who is required
to return to work on an overtime basis shall receive
minimum credit for two hours' work.
k, Exempt Employees. The overtime provisions specified ,
in this section do m t apply to County officers, depart-
ment heads, or those employees in classifications exempted
from paid overtime by the Board of Supervisors.
