COUNTY OF C3UTTE. STATE OF CALIFORNIA
Resolution No. 69-147
WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors had requested
the State of California to return the homes that the State had built
for employees at the Oroville Dam construction to the tax rolls; and
WHEREAS, we requested local realtors be allowed to dispose of
those homes for a fair market value; and
WHEREAS, we asked that local residents be allowed to bid on
the homes; and
WHEREAS, the aforementioned houses were in fact sold in lots
of 4 or more, which had the practical effect of precluding a bid by
individual buyers; and
WHEREAS, the houses were sold at below appraised value; and
WHEREAS, a bidding by individual houses with public knowledge
that bids would be considered below the appraisal would undoubtedly
realize a larger return to the taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, the law does allow the State to place the sale in the
hands of local realtors when bids are below estimated value; and
WHEREAS, sales to local residents by local realtors, whether
at a "retail" or '"wholesale" price would inure to the benefit of the
taxpayers of the State of California as well as to Butte County tax-
payers; and
WHEREAS, more than two years have elapsed since the Butte
Board asked far the houses to be sold, and the time necessary to bid
is not of prime consideration,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of
Supervisors:
1. That we respectfully request that the State of California,
prior to selling state property for less than a fair
market value, consult with the governing body of local
government in which said property is located; and
That, if possible at this time, the recent bid on the
State houses in Oroville might be reconsidered.
