HomeMy WebLinkAbout70-049_~i E~ __ WHEREAS, this Board has been made aware of ~he provisions of United S~ates Senate Bill 2203 wha.ch i.s entitled, "The Consumer-Agricultural Food Protecti.on Act of I970; WHEREAS, this legis].ation was introduced to solve a dileinma over labbr problems whi.ch has faced American agri- cultuxe for many years and has created hardship among farmers and among farm ~orkers, as well as others connected with the production, distribution and marketing of America's faod supply; and further, t~.is dilemma has also worked ~rith ill effect on the public at large through work stoppages, crop losses, job losses and illegal boycott campaigns, and such boycott attempts have endangered the freedom of choice for consumers in free, unobstructed markets. WHEREAS, this legislation is designed to resolve the problem Qf insuring ~'arm workers the right to bargain col- lectively, to protect their jobs, and to organize into unions through orderly methods, including the secret ballot provision, to protect our farmers against harassment and coercive methods such as many have experienced in recent years~ WHEREAS, this legislation wi11 also protect the flow of food from the farm to the marketplace, safeguarding to the consv.mers freedom of choice in the marketplace, and freeing the consumer from the disruptive tactics of boycotters and others who would restrict his choice and needlessly increase the eost of his ~oodo 7~"y9 RESOLUTION TN SITPPORT OF UNITED ST TES S ATE BI 203 (TH~ CONSUMER-AGRICULTiJRAL FOOD PROTECTION ACT OF ~.970) WHEREAS, this Board strongly supports the provisions of United State Senate Bill 2203; NOW, 'I'HER~FO~E, BE IT RESOLVED by this Board of Supervisors; 1, '~hat this Board strongly endorses and supports United 5tates Senate Bill 2203 and respectfully recommends its passage by the Congress of the Uni,ted 5ta~eso 2.
