of Senate Bi~l 1347 and,
W~TEREAS, Senate Bill 1347 contains the following defects:
1. All "economic poisons" are regulated, though a
number are not hazardous to health of farm workers. A~1 herbicides,
insecticides and grow~h regulators are classed as "economic poisons";
2. Regulation is to be by the Division of Industrial
Safety, no~ the Department of Agr~culture, which has extensive
knowledge about agricultural chemicals and already has reg~~ations
in the area;
3. Hand washing facilities are already requzred for
food crops, and by the Division of Industrial Welfare for women
and minors;
4. Regulations requiring posting notices about chemicals
are being adopted by the Department of Agriculture;
5. 'The arder by the safety inspector is without hearing
to the employer and on unacceptab~e grounds. Workers can be
banned from a field if it is "unsafe" or if things can be don.e to
make'-the area safer;
6. The grower must pay a fee for each inspection of up;:
to $55 per year for each field.
NOW, TFI~RE~'OR~, BE IT RESOLVED by this Board:
1. That this Board strongly opposes Senate Bill 1347
and respectfully requests thafi the Legislature defeat this pro-
posed legislation on the grounds set forth herein.
