RESOLUTION PRQ:TESTiNG ~~ STRIKE SY LONGSHORIl~IEN
WEITGH HAS TIED UP WEST COAST SHIFPING
WHEREAS, the County of Butte is a major producer of agricultural
products which are shipped through Pacific Coast ports for world
wide distribution,
WHER~S, this internati onal shipping of agricultura]. com~nodities
is v~tal to the economzc life of Butte County,
WHEREAS, the Pacific Coast Longshoremen's Union has been on
strike since Ju1y l, 197I, which has caused considerable economic
lose to the citizens of oar county and will cause many more maj.or
Ioses in the event the strike is not settled immediately,
NOW,THII~E~ORE, BE IT RESOLVED by this Board:
I, That we respectful~y request that the President of the
United States immediately exercise his powers under the Taft-Hartly
Act so that the ports of the west coast may be ~eopened.
2. 'That copies of this resolution be sent to the Honorable
Harold T. (Bizz) Jahnson, Congressman, Honorable Alan Cranston,
Senator, Honorable 3ohn Tunney, Congressman, and to such other
parties as the Board may direct,

this 28th day of Se tember , 1971, by the following vote:
