HomeMy WebLinkAbout72-050.. __~ WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 344(Cfiapter 1626) f~om ~the 1971 Session provided licensing requirements for the reception and care of persons age 16 through 64, WHEREAS, these provisi.ons overlap the already existing pro- visions regarding the Iicensing of boarding homes for children up to the age of 18, or 21 if sti~.~. attending school, WHEI2EAS, a cansequence of AB 344 could be the placement of young persons with the older persons, age 18 thxough 64, WHER~S, the older graup, 18 through 64, usually includes tlie mentally ill, WfiEREAS, the placement of young people with the mentally i11 seems wholly without reason and could be very injurioe~s to the child involved, WHEREAS, the only alternative to such placement would be contrived agreements with the facility to bE licensed,and WHEREAS, both children and adults would bene~it from separation at age 18. • NOW, THEREF'ORE, BE IT RESOLVEA: 1, That t~is Board strong7.y urges the passage of emergency legislation which would change the minimum age specified` in Assembly Bill 344 (1971 Session) from 16 to 18. 2, Tha~ a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Honorable Fred Marler, Senator, the Honorable Ray Johnson, Assemblyman, the Cal.i~ornia State Department of Social Welfare, and to such other persons as this Board may direct.
