ORDINANCE NO. 72J~
AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING NUTRIA (SOUTH AMERICAN
BEAVER~_ COYPU} IN THE COUNTY OF BUTTE
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
of California, do ordain as follows:
1, That the term "nutria" as herein used, pertains
to the animal also known as `.'South American beaver" and also
known as "caypu,"
2. .Any person raising, keeping or having nutria in
the County of Butte shall make a monthly report to the Agxicultur
Commissioner of the County of Butte, upon a form prescribed by hip
stating the number of nutria animals on hand, number of nutria
animals pelted during the month, number of nutria animals sold,
exchanged or given away during the month, the name and address
e~-€.the nutria permit number of the person receiving the nutria
animals, the number of surviving nutria animals newly born during
the-:month, the number of nutria animals acquired during the
month from any source, and the name, address and nutria permit
number of the person supplying such nutria animals.
3. Any nutria animal grower desiring to terminate
or wind up his nutria growing business other than by sale or
other transfer of ownership, shall forthwith notify in writing
the Agricultural Commissioner of the County of Butte, who shall
then arrange with said nutria grower to have a representative
of the office of the Agricultural Commissioner of the County of
Butte present to supervise the disposal of all nutria animals,
and upon the completion of such disposal as so supervised, the
Agricultural Commissioner of the County of Butte shall issue said
nutria grower a certificate showing full.-compliance with the
provisions of this ordinance.
4. It shall be unlawful to raise or keep nutria
in an area designated by the Agricultural Commissioner of the

County of Butte to be subject to flooding to such an extent that
nutria animals could or might escape from their pens or places
of confinement,
5. The provisions of this Ordinance are supplemental to
in addition to the provisions relating to nutria contained in the
California Agricultural Code,
• 6, Any person violating-the provisions of this
Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanoxM
7. This Ordinance shall take effect thirty {30)
days after its passage and before the expiration of fifteen (15)
days after its passage, it shall be published with the names of
the members voting for and against it at least once in a local
newspaper published in the County of Butte, State of California,
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of
the County of Butte, State of California, at the regular meeting
thereof on the °3Oth day of Odtober„ 1961, by the following vote:

Chairman Giles
