of the opinion that a regu.lar stop o~ the Amtrak. train at Orland,
Calif ornia would provide greatly improved service over that prov~.ded by
Amtrak's present scheduJ.e and would better serve the needs of the residents
of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, there is an increasing n~un.ber of students attenda.ng
California 5ta~te Universzty, Chi.co, from Los Angeles, Washington and
~regon and an Orland stop would, as a resul~t, gen.erate substantiai
passenger loading; and
WHEREAS, improved scheduling and the resulting increased
use of passenger trains would be consistent with efforts to co.nserve
ene~gy, in that passenger trains use fuel more efficiently tha.n
automobiles; and
WH~REAS, the Chico City Council has requested an Amtrak stop
in Orlend,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ~T RESOLVEb that the Board of Supervisors
o£ the County of Bu~~e hereby joins with the City of Chico in requesting
Amtrak to consider a regular stop of the Amtrak train at Orland, Cali~arniae
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Soard of Supervisors
