that programs and projec~s implemented under the Federal Safe StreeCs
Act have been widely supported and quite successful, and
WHEREAS, the success of projects is largely due to the
high levels of cooperation between elements of the Criminal Justice
System, units of 1oca1 Government, and the Regional Planning Board,
and
WHEREAS, there is some danger ~his program will be discan-
tinued in California, or seriously curtailed, due to a lack o~ under-
standing or general mzsconception on the part of tne Executive ~evel
of State Government, and •
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States provided these
funds for the purpose of creating a more effect~ve Criminal Justice
System at the 1oca1 level.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte Coun~y Board
of Supervisors supports the concept of this pxogram, recognizes the
effectiveness of expending Federal Dollars at the local level, and
srrongly urges the Governor. of California to provide leadership in
~he continuation of a program designed to assist and .fund 1oca1 units
of government and their Criminal Justice System agencies.
