recently held a public hearing on the problem of p~oviding prenatal
and obstetrics care to the citizens of the County ot Butte, and
WHEREAS this Board finds that the rates established by the
Medical Program for prenatal and obstetrics care are less than the
general rate established in 1964, which xesults in having the paying
p.at~ents actually subsidize the Medical pat~ents to a degree; and
WHEREAS our medical profession is acCUally loosing money
on prena~al care and child delivery to such an extent that they are
now eliminating such activities from their practices of inedicine; and
WHEREAS the low I~edical rates coup~ed with the ever
incxeasing malpra~tice insurance rates has exacerbated the problem
to the extent that we are facing a crisis situa~ion in obstetrics.
NOW, THEREFOR~, BE I~ ~tESOLVED by this Board:
l. That the Medical Program be amended to provide equitable
fees for doctors engaged in obstetrics.
