1tESOLU~'ION REQUESTING REMEDIAL~ LEGISLATIOI~
TO PRO'VIbE FOR FEDERAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR
MEDIGAL CARE FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS AND TRANSIENTS
WHEREAS, this Board has been made aware of situation.s whereby
individuals w~.o are ~n this country i1l.egally have need and been
given medical treatment by our hospitals and doctors within our
county;
WHr~REAS, under present Medi-Cal regulations the illegal
aliens and transients are not eligible for Medi-Cal benefits.
WHEREAS, to impose this liability on the already over burdenad
property taxpayer would be inequitable, and Iikewise it is tota7.
inequity for our Iocal doctors and hospitals to sustain the monetary
loss.
NOW, 'I`l~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That federal legislation be enacted to provide for federal
reimb~rsement for the medical care of ilZegal aliens and transients.
2. Copy of this resolution be sent to the Honorable Alan
Cranston, Senator and the Honorable John V. Tunney, Senator, the
Honorable Harold T. Johnson, Congressman and to such others as
directed by this Soard.
