. RESOLUTIOIJ REQUESTING pROCLA~'IATIDN OF A
"STATE OF E1~IERGEPdCY" OF BLJTTE COU~ITY
~dfiEREAS, on Au~us~ 1, 1975, the Oroville area, as we1~
as the community surrounding Oroville, was severely damaged by an
earthquake, and
WFiEREAS, since the original earthquake numerous ea~th-
quakes have occurred, many o~ which created additional and substan~ial
damage, and
WHEREAS, ~he earthquakes have caused damage not only to
public buildings, but in particulaz. to priva~e residences and business
~stablishments, and
WH~REAS, the daznage Co the various residences and places
of business'are of such r~aCure and magnitude as.to bring about
financial ruin to hundreds of citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED thaC this Board respect-
fu11y requests the Governor proclaim a"state of eme~gency" e:~ists
in Bu~re County as a resu.lt of the earthqualces of 1~ugus~ 1., 1975 and
the eart~,.quakes that have continued almost on a daiJ~y bas~s since
Augus~ 1. That this Boazd believes that. this area i.s enCZCled to
emergency relief that a"state o~ emergency" designation would brxra.g.
T~.e Board finds, and respectfu~ly expresses its opinion to tne
Govern.or, th.at ali.hough we are a sma11 community and, therefore,
monetary damages are not nearly as high as, for instance the earth-
c~uake in tne San Fernando Valley, tha.t the da~nage to groperty in
our ar~a bri~gs about a dire need for r~lief. ~'he Qrovi~~l.e area,
~rnich ~aas particularly hard hit, is an area o~ historically higiz
unemp~oyment taith r2sulting poverty. Hundreds of ~he peop~e who n.ave
had ~heir hoE?-ies and business?s severeTy daLnaged will be unable
fi.ranciall.y to repair same.

this oppoztuniry to express z~s sincere apprecia~ion on beha~f o~
the people o~ this County ~nr the prompt and efficien~ sexvice
extend~d by Messrs. Gordon Larl~in and Cliff Brooks of ~he Of~ice oi
Emergency Services. These two individuals and ~heir organizatior
have certainly demons~rated a most sincere and helpful a~titude,
~oY tahich t'nis Board wishes to express its deepest apprecia~ion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLV~D that the orig~nal of this reso2u-
tion be~respectfully submit~ed to the Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Jr.,
Governor o~ the 5ta~e of Calitornia, and copies sent to the Honora~le
Randolph Collier, State Senator, the Hanarable Eu~ene Chappie, State
Assemblyman, the Honorable Pauline Davis, S~ate Assemblywoman an~
' to such other agenc~es and officials as this Board directs.
