Th~ maintena.nce ref~rrEd ~a in tha precedin~ paragraph inc~udes no~ only ~he preservation of ~he genera~ physica~ ~~atures o~ ~he roadway, roadsid~, and sur~acing, but a~sa a~l safe~y and rebulatory ~eatures, dev~ces and appurtenances ~uz~~ in~o the proj~ct, and nane o~ said safety features, devic~s and appurte- nances sha~Y be r~noved, eliminated or decreased in effectiveness without ~he priar apprava~ o~ STATE. Sa~~ty f~atures to b~ main- ~ain~~ include a roadside clear of ut~l~t~es and ather obstruc- tions or ~eatures which may be a hazard ta a~o~arist who inadvez~ ten~Iy l~av~s the traveled ~ay.
