RESOLUTIOfd A~OPTIfVG POLICY ON RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE
I~HEREAS, The County of Butte has experienced considerable
problems within the past years concerning insurance procurement and the
handling risks. the Board of Supervisor deems it a necessity to create a
policy for the hand7ing of risk management and insurance for the County
of Butte.
NOW, THEREFORE, SE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors that
the policy on risk management and insurance for the County of Butte
attacf~ed hereto as Exhibit "A" is adopted and approved.

2. Protect the public budget aga~nst ca~astroph~c losses;
3. ~inir~ize ~he total cos~ of risk managemen~.
B. Whenever risks af a catas~rophic nature exist, they wiTl be eliminated or
reduced as much as ~rac~~cal. Insurance w-~th limits equa~ to ~F~e
' maximum fareseeable loss sha~l be ~urchased whenever i~ ~s avai7able
at a nremium judged accep~able by ~he County.
C. The Coun~y will r~ot insure those ris[cs which do not present a catastro~hic
~oss potential unless other factors, such as the need ~'or particular 1ass
prevention or cla~m services or lacfc of an adequate prer~iur~ savings,
makes such a purchase des~rable. Stror~g ef~nrts to elimina~e, reduce
or control these iosses w~17 be made.
D. Catastroph~c ris[cs sf~aZT be defined as those with a lass po~ential in
exeess of $50,Q00 per occurrence.
E. When professiona~ services are used, in~:Zegal defense, ~ass prevention
engineering, risk managemEn~ consuiting, etc., -~he objective is ta
s~c~re the highest degree of professianal ski11.
F. Detailed speci~Ficatians for ~nsurance coverages shauld be prepared every
six years and -~ormal b~ds saZicited from carriers. Tf t~e County`s
appointe~ agent is performing satisfactori~y, th~s agent sha17 control
the bidding pracess. If not, b~ds sha11 be solic~ted utilzing th~
restr~cted b~dding process.
G. Responsibili~y ~or ~he ris~C r~anagement program shal~ be vested wit~ the
County Adm~nistrat~ve Officer.

a]1 asp~cts of the Coun~y's ~oss prev~ntior~ program ~hrough staff
representatives.
