WHEREAS, the Sacramentio Canals Unit was authori2ed by Cangress on
Septembex 26, 1950, {PL 8~-839}, sub3ect to a findxng of feasibility; and;
W~ REAS, the Chico Can.al is an authorized structure, havin.g been reported
upon in a Dececnber 1951 feasibility report entii~I.ed "Sacramenta Canals 'Unxt;
Sacxamento A~ver Division, Cen.~xa~. Val.ley Project, Californi.a"; and
WHEREAS, ~he a~oxement~.oned repare resul~ed in the finding d~ a benefit-
cost rakfo of 2.I7 to 1.00 ~ar the C1ni.co Canal, a~ tha~ time; and
WHE~EAS, approx~mate~y 74,OD0 acxe feet of water annually from ~.he
Sacra~entia R~~rer have been. allocated to the p~oposed praject; and ~
WliEitEAS, the ~.nifizally-proposed service area e~braces same of ~iutte; -
Caun~y~'s bes~ soils with good praduc~~vi.ty a~d income potentiaL, sub~ect ~o'
the avail.abi.lity of .an adequate, d~pendable, and continuing water suppLy; an.d
WHEREAS, xecenfi Bureau of Reclamation ibr~gation we13. tests and sCud.~.es
have revealed marked Zowerings o~ water l.~vels in the proposed service area
because of drought conditions prevaxl~.ng ~n 1976 and 1977, par~icu],ar1y ~n :
~hose wells situa~ed north and west o~ Duxham; an~.
WHEREAS, such drought cond3t3ons have undezscored the n.eed for a supp~.e-
mental source of water; and

requested the U.S. Secretary of th.e Intera~or to "d~~ect the Bureau of
Reclamation ~o initia~e an update of cost and ali.gnmen~ of the canal system~

County join with. Congressman Harold T. (Bizz) Joh.z~son ~.n urging the Bureau
~ of Reclamat~on that zt update its cost and aligntnen~ stuc3ies rela~ed to tt~e
~ authorize~ Chico Canal; and
