HomeMy WebLinkAbout80-040WHEREAS, Amtrak's Los Angeles to Seattle passenger service gresently runs north from Davis up the west side of the Sacramento Va11ey through a relatively sparsely populated area; azzd WHEREAS, in a time of increasing shortages of gasolin.e, high costs of fuel, crowded highways, and other environmental considerations, it is incumbent upon all those in positions of authority to ex~courage increased public use of those means of mass transportation wli.ich will conserve those fuel reserves which are in short supply; and WHEREAS, the inconvenient routing of Amtrak through sparsely populated areas and away from the valley's population centers dis- courages rather than encourages increased rider usage of the present facili~ies; and WHEREAS, zt has been. clearl.y shown that an alternate route from Sacramento through Roseville, Marysville, Oroville and Chico is feasibl.e ~.nd directly connects the major gopulation cenrers thereby praviding convenient transportation and enc~uraging increased rider usage; 23QW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVE- that this Board does hereby support the rerouting of Amtxak's Los Angeles to Seattle Passenger Service from the west side of the Sacramento Valley to the more heavily populated east side.
