For several years the Coun~y o~ But~e has adminis~ered
a progxam of housing i~nprovement and neighborhood r~vita~.ization
~..za. th~ EI i~iedio area af 4rovi~le. This program has incl.~.ded such
ac~ivities as th.e r.ehabz~.i.tat~.on of subs~andard housing, the
Yns~alia~ion of public works ~ac~.l~.ties - storm drainage, curbs,
gut~ers, sidewalks and stree~ ~inprovements - and the acquisit~.an
of I.and ~or new housing developme~~.
Through ~he use o~ federaZ Communi~y Developmen~ Biock
Grant funds, the County has acquired several properta.es which are
gradual~y b~ing sold to priva~e developexs as ~he housin.g markat
and neighborhood cond~tions d~.c~ate. This disposita.on activity
z.s part of the County's overa~.~ effort to z.ncrease the supp~.y of
housing for ~aw- and modexa-te-zrt.co~e persarr.s .
