Home My WebLink About80-176WHEREAS, the easterly portion of the bank of the Sacramento River between the upstream end of the Sacramento River Floo~ Con~rol ~roject levee near the G1enn-Butte County Line, and Chico Landing, has ezoded dangerously; and WH~REAS, the erosion of the river bank in this vicinity has resul~ed xn additional overflow into the upper Butte.Basin, thereby unnecessarily flooding approximately 50,000 acres in But~e and Glenn Countzes at times and for durations which would not otherwise occur; and ~ W~IEREAS, further erosion of the river bank raises a substan- tial and immediaCe zzsk that the river will establish a new channel leading into the Colusa Bas~n on the west or the Butte Basin on the east, and flow behind the exis~ing Flood Control Project levees, rendering these levees useless and causing great damage downstream in G1enn, Colusa and Yo~o Counties, or ~n Butte, Glenn, Sutter and Sacramento Counties; and WHEREAS, the flood of January-February, 1980, although of moderate degree, greatly accelerated the eresion, indicating that rhe next major flood may we11 establish such a new channel; NOW, THER~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board as follows: l. That Chis Board urges the United States Army Corps of ~ngineers, the State Reclamation Board, and the State Department of Water Resources to take irnmediate emergency action prior to the next flood season to restore the historic river bank elevation where necessary to re-estab~is~ the historic Ievel at which over-bank flooding commences into the upper Butte Basin, and to prevent a RESOLUTION REQ~ESTING RESTORATION OF THE BANK OF SACRAMENTO RIVER -2- relocation of the Sacramento River channel and hold the rzver zn its present location between the Flood Control Project levees. 2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Honorable "Bizz" Johnson, Congzessman, the Honorable Ray Johnson, State Senator, the Honorable Eugene Chappie, State Assemblyman, the Honorable Stan Statham, State Assemblyman, and any other persans whom the Board so directs.
