HomeMy WebLinkAbout81-044TO IPICREASE AS50CIATED TRAhSPORTATION REVENUES 4dHEREAS, there is a recognized transportation funding cris9s in the State of California and potential legisTative action to meet this problem; and WHEREAS, the County Supervisors Association of Ca7ifornia (CSAC) has for several years articuTated the maintenance, rehabilitation and improvement problems associated with county transportation facilities; and WHEREAS, the state Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax has been fixed at 7~ per gallon of fuel sold since ~963; and 6JHEREAS, truck weight fees have not been ad~usted to correspondingly ~eet the increased maintenance caused by heavier vehicles upon streets and highways; and WHEREaS, the state vehicle license and ~rivers' license fees are not adequa~ely funding the regulatory agencies of the Department of P4otor Vehicles and the California Highway Patrol; and WHEREAS, the California Transportation Commission, policy committees of the Legislature and other interest groups are reviewing components of a transportation funding package; ~06d, THER~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Superv~sors of Butte County supports a reasonab~e increase of varied revenues, such as gas tax and associated fee increases, to be allocated not on1y to county government for its transportation programs, but also to the state transportation program; BE I7 FllRTHER RESOLV~D that this action ~s taken in recogniti.on that transportation is a vital component of the social and economic growth for the State of California and should no longer be ignored; BE T7 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of 8utte County urges the California State Legislat~re to adopt legis~ation which insures the public's investments in these systems be protected and improved where necessary; IN TkE MATTER OF URGING CALIFORNIA STATE LEGiSLATURE -z- BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board support SB 215 by Senator Foran and our own Senator Ray Johnson, as it is the only streets and roads transportation ~unding proposal available; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be provided to the Governor of the State of Californ9a, the members of the Senate and Assembly Transportation Committees, Assemblyman Wally Herger and Senator Ray Johnson and tfie County Supervisors Association of California.
