HomeMy WebLinkAbout81-062WHEi~EA5, the California Legislature enacted a law on March 14, 1881 which provided for the office of county boa~ds ot horticultural commissi,onezs, now known as agricultural aommissioner; and, WHEREAS, a county board o~ horticnltural comma,ss9.oners was established in Butte County by November 12, 188~; and, WHEREAS, while the ori,ginaZ charge of the horticultural commissia~er was to protect agriculture from certaa.n pests, today the agricu~.tuzal commissioners are responsible ~or promoting and protecting agriculture, the public health and safety, the consumer, and the enva;ronment; and, WHEREAS, the agricultural commissioner system is unigue to Califorrz~a and has demonstrated a method of deliveri,ng services that is both effective and ef~icient; and, WHEREAS, the agricultural commissi.oner system provides 1oca1 con~rol. over areas of great concern ~.o the citizens of this county; and, WHEREAS, the agricultura]. commissioner5 offices provide many special services that are responsa,ve to the needs of the local aommuni,ty; and, WHEREAS, the agricultural coiamissi.oners have maintained a program to insure that pestica,des are u~ed i.n a safe manner thereby protecting agricultural workers, the environznent, and providi,ng consumers with food that is both safe and whoXesome; and, WHEREAS, the agricultural commissioners have served to prevent the 3.n~roduction of~ pests in~o California that would be de~rimental to agriculture and the environment, and to further RESOLUTTON RECOGNIZING THE 10-OTH ANNTVERSAktY OF THE INST ITUT TON OF COUNTIT AGRFCUI,`.C'URA.L COMM~S'SIONER .............................. caxry ont a aomprehens~ve program to detect and erad~cate those de~rimental pests that are xntroduced into the state; and, WHEREAS, the agricultural comm~ssioaers have contributed to stable markets and consumer confidence in fruits, vegetab~es, nuts and honey through a program of qual~ty control inspection; and, WHE~EAS, the agricultural aommiss~oners have provided lEadership, research and field activities for the control of crop depredating vertebrate and invertebrate pests noxious weeds, and plant diseases; and, WIiEREAS, the nursery, seed and ap~ary ~ndustries have been served and protected by ~he_programs carr~ed out by the agricu~tural comznissioner; and, WfiEREAS, March 14, 1981 mazks the one hundredth anniversary of the ~nstitution of county agricultural commissioners; NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that ~his Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte on behalf of its citizens does hereby recagn~ze th~s centennial anniversary of the county agricultur,al commissioner sys~em in California and does turther congratulate each agr~cultural commissioner and staff member for the ded~cated service tha~ has been performed for the c~tizens of this county and ~he state.
