HomeMy WebLinkAbout82-RESOLUTION ORDERING INCLUSION OF AN ADVISORY MEASURE ON THE BALLOT OF THE GENERAL ELECTION RELATIVE TO FUNDING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT STAFFING AND RELATED EXPENSES WHEREAS, an initiative petition to enact a County o=dinance setting forth minimum law enforcement and related staffing patterns has quaiified for placement on the November 2, 1982 ballot; and WHEREAS, said initiative petition identifies minimum staffing to include 52 deputy sheriff positions, unspecified jailer positions, unspecified fraud investigator positions within the Welfare Department and unspecified investigator positions within the District Attorney`s Office and reZated support and supervisory personnel; and WHEREAS, said initiative does not contain provisions for the funding of law enforcement staffing and related costs; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors believes if said initiative is to be implemented it will be necessary for the electorate to authorize additional special taxes and/or assessments to properly fund the increased staffing and related costs; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors believes it is necessary to submit an advisory measure to the electorate to determine the willingness of its citizens' support and authorize additional taxes and/or assessments to pay for these costs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT R.ESOLVED by this Board as follows: l. That thzs Board hezeby orders inclusion of an advisory measure on the ballot of the General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 2, 1982, which advisory measure wi~X read as follows: -2- "ADVISORY VOTE ONLY" Will the citizens of Butte County support and authorize the creation o~ additional YES ~axes and/or assessments to fund law enforcement staffing and related expenses for the sheriff's patrol divison, jail NO division, District Attorney and Welfare Department?
