pursue appropriate legislation to preserve our water; and
ti~EREAS, the Bu~te County Board of Supervzsors wants to
pursue the proper legislation that will give local control over
the usage of groundwater in the tri-counry area of Butte, Glenn,
and Tehama counties; and
C~HBREAS, the Coun~y of BuCtie is of the opinion that special
problems could lead to critical overdraft and have critical effects
on the economy of the county; and
WHEREAS, a substantial portion of Che economy in Butte
county is agricultural productivity, dependent upon adequate supplies
of groundwater during dro~ght periods when surface warers are not
adequate; and
WHEREAS, tne County of Butte has a strong interesC in
developing a preservation plan providing the necessary means to
promote the local control of groundwater reserves; an~
WHEREAS, in cooperation with the Counti~s af Glenn and
Tehama, Butte County has devoted support to any method of assuring

the use of `groundwater under our auspices, not only for our use, but
others when our needs are met.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows:
l. That the County of Sutte requests that Senator Ray
Johnson introduce legislation that will allow Che couzzeies of Butte,
G1enn, and Tehama the means to protect their groundwater, similar to
that provided by SB 1391 for Plumas, Lassen and Sierra counties.

to provide a certified copy of this Resolution ta the Honorable
Ray Johnson.
