AS THE METROPOLITAN PLAN~I~G ORGA~IZATION
YlHEREAS, the federal government has estabZished criteria for
identifying metropolitan areas of over 5b,000 population to be considered
"urbanized" for the purposes of federal assistance; and
WNEREAS, the results of the 1980 decennial census have established
that the City of Chico and the surrounding urban portion of Butte County
meets this criteria; and
WNEREAS, each urbanized area, as a condition to the receipt of
federal transportation funds, must have a continuing, cooperative and
comprehensive transportation planning process consistent with the ru]es and
regulations estab7ished by the U.S. Department of Transportation; and
WI{EREAS, a Metropolitan P1anning Organization (MPO} shal] be
designated to carry out this pTanning responsibiljty in the Chico urbanized
area; and
4lH~R~AS, the MetropoZitan Planning Organization must be designated
by the Governor, 6ased upon agreement among the units of genera1 purpose
7oca1 government; and
WHEREAS, BCAG has been designated as the regionai transportation
planning aqency for Butte County; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Associat~on of Governments meets the
federal regulations for representation of 7oca1 governments as a Metropolitan
Planning Organization,
~QW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLUE~ that the County of Butte agrees that
BCAG be designated the Metropolitan P7anning Organ9zation far Butte County.
