HomeMy WebLinkAbout82-113WHEREAS, '~he County of Butte desires to undertake a certain pxoject designated Butte County Victim Witness Prograzn to be funded, in part, from ~unds made availabZe through Chapter 713, 1979 Stat~tes (California Victim/Witness Assistance Program administered by the Office of Criminal Justice Planning, hereafter referred to as OCJP. NQW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESQLVED that the Chief Probation Officer of the Butte County Probation Department is authorized, on its behalf, to submit the attached application for state funds for the purpose of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program and ~s authorized to execute on behalf of Butte County Probation Department, the attached contract for Victim/Witness Assistance Program purposes including any extensions or arnendments thereof. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that state funds received hereunder shall not be used to supplant local funds that would, in the absence of the California Victim/Witness Assistance Program, be made available to support the assistance of victims and witnesses of c~ime. The computier w~ll have capabzlit~es in the fo~~owing three areas: 3CGO~ri~1rig~ word process~ng and da~a base collection. The us~ of this equipment will significar~t~y reduce the az~ount af dup~icate paper wark presen~CZy done by project staff. Tn addi~tion., _ it wi].1 a~.low the project to ~ave a much• more effect~.ve , cross index~ng system as we11. a~ a method of tracking vic-- tims and wi~nesses through th~ criminal j~stice sys~em. ~ Pr~sen~~.y, Butte County daes not have a computer system for th~ cr~.nina~, justice system which mak~s ~racking a case through the syst~m a very time consurning and confusi.ng task. Once infox~ation i.s ~eceived on. a v~.ctim, i~ can si~nply be entered into th~ co~tputer and upda~ed wherever ne~t info~- mation ~s received. This is a sa~g~ificant s~rvice for Butte County in that the Vic~im Program p~ovides services to four Iow~r courts, i,n four sepa~ate towns, as welZ as S~pe~ior Couzt. In addifiion, ther~ are $ diff~~en~ ~aw enforcament agencies and branch offices making referra~s to the pxogran, a11 havzng their own chain of process~ng offenders.
