RESOLUT~4N PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER AS
"VETERANS CALL TD [1NITY MONTH"

WH~REAS, the v~ry word veteran mean~ experience; and
WHEREAS, it has been the experience of Cal~fornia v~terans
that nathing of signi.~icance was every a~COmplished without un~.ty;
and
WH~REAS, 9.8 mi.llion citizens se~~ed during the Vietnam
Con~lict; and
WHEREAS, 6.8 mi.l~ion citizens served during the Korean
Conflict; and
WHEREAS, 1.6.5 mi111ion ci.~izens served during World War II;
and
WHEREAS, 4.7 ~~i1~on citi~ens served during Wor1d War I;
and
WHEREAS, 392,000 citizens served during the Spanish American
War ; and
WHEREAS, 3.9 mil~ion citizens serv~d during the Ci~il War,
the Indzan Wars, the Mexi.~an Wa~s, the Wa~ of 1812, and the American
Revol.utio~; a~d
WH~R~AS, the colleCtive contributions af these AIn~T1C~ilS~
effor~s and allegzence to the changing needs o£ tL~ei~ Nation also
had a signi.ficant effect on their widows, arphans, and surviving
family members; and
WHEREAS, of the ave~ 42 million American Citixems who have
served thexr cot~ntry in uniform, 30 mil~ion surv'it~e in this nation

WHEREAS, a great number also in~u~red lifetime disabilzties
or died in s~rvic~ to our Nation; and
WHEREAS, some were Prisoners of Wa~ or continue to be Missin~
in Action, and
WH~R~AS, the majari~y have returned and successfu~ly rejoined
and contri~uted to the communi~y of life; and
WHEREAS, these men and women share a common bond of having
answered their Naeio~'s call to serve and did sa loyally, with valar
and wz11 never forget the i~delible eff~cts af war; and
WHEREAS, re~lection upon this stren~th of comman experience
_ ~as rekzndled the veteran's sense of duty and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Navember I~ is traditiana~ly known as Veterans
Day;
NOW, THEREF~RE, B~ ~T RESO~VED that thzs Board hereby proc~aims
the month o~ Nov~mber, 19$2, as "Veterans Call to Unity Month", a call
to vnity of aII Californza cztazens by this Board on behalf of a11
Butte Cou~ty vet~rans who have contributed greatly to the security and
welfare of t~e na~~on and o~ the S~ate of Californza, particula~ly,
and urge all Californians--citizens, v~terans, and vEterans gro~ps
alike--to work toward commo~ goals, benefits, and recognition thraugh
the event5 and celebrations commemorating this period.
