Home My WebLink About83-141A RESOLUTTON OF TH~ BUTTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUP~RVISORS OPPOSING ASSEN~LY BILL 613 WHEREAS, the California state legisZature is now considering Assembly Bill 613 which wo~1d impose a"weight distance tax" on vehicZe combinations weighing more than 50,000 pounds; and WHSREAS, it is estimated that the weight distance tax would add a cost of approxima~ely 10 cents pex mile for every loaded mile a truck travels in California; and WHSREAS, Butte County's agricalturaZ and dairying industry depends heavily on efficient an@ economical truck transportation and this proposed legislation would severely impact the transportation of agricultural products resulting in an increased cost of those products which must compete in a national and international marKe~; and WHEREAS, the impos~tion of this additional tax would be especially disadvantageous to Butte because of its many employers who ship and receive by truck; and WHEREAS, studies have shown that a weight dzstance tax fs the most inefficient and costly means of obtaining revenues to fund highway related costs; and WHEREAS, both the State of California and the national govern- ment have recently imposed new road taxes, the revenue impaat o£ which has not yet been tu~ly rea~ized and which tax is intended to generate funds to maintain and expand the state and national transportation system. NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE, that it does hereby declare its opposition to Assembly Bill 613, and BE IT EURTHER RESOLVED that the County staEf be directed to transmit official copies of this re5olution to Zegislators and County Supervisors Association of California.
