HomeMy WebLinkAbout83-142RESOLUTION OPPOSING U.S. SENATE BILL 1525 WHEREAS, S. 1525 has been introduced for consideration by the Senate of the Unired Sta~es; and WfIEREAS, S. 1525 would, among other things, mandate by law that rhe federal government would be lfmited to only 75 percent of the eligible cosCS of disastier damage relief efforts; and C~HEREAS, such a requirement would have tremendous negative impacts on all Americans during Cheir time of need following a natural disastex; and W'HEREAS, S. 1525 would have crippling financial consequences for State and local governments_followin~ a natural disaster especia~ly in their attempts to provide needed assistance and maintain vital services to effected communities; and TaHEREAS, such a law would resule in a breach of a historical commikment of the federal governmenC whiCh heretofore has been Iargely responsible for providing meaningful disaster recovery assistance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: 1. That the Board of Supervisors of t~e County of Sutte, California, vigorouslq opposes the passage of S. 1525, and strongly urges each member of ~he House of Representatives and the Senate to vote "NO" on S. 1525. 2.
