A RESOLUTTON OF THE ~3UTTE CQUNTY BOARD OF SC7PERVISORS
WHEREAS, all of us are indebted to the more than 30 million living veterans
of America's military; and
WHEREAS, among these veterans there are more than 1.2 million women
who enlisted in all branches of the militar,y, beginning with TNorld War I, and
continuing to the present day; and
WHER~AS, 104,OOD of these women veterans currently reside in California;
and
WIiEREAS, alI of the women veterans freely left their homes, families,
and friends to serve in partnership with their male counterparts, frequently
experiencing the great dangers and challenges of war; and
WHEREAS, despite the often physically hazardous and emotionaily
devastatfng situafions they encountered, these courageous womea contributed
greatly to fhe preservation of the Nation and to the peace in the world; and
WHEREAS, they returned home to rear families, enter the workforce,
and continue their service to their fellow Americans by their involvement as
volunteers itt hospitals, clinics, and rest homes as working members of veterans
organizat'rons, charitable groups, and service clubs; and
WHBR~AS, November 11 is traditionally known as Veterans Day.
NOCN, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOT~VED that the Board of Supervisors of
the County of Butte does hereby proclaim the month of November 1983 as Veterans
Unity Month - A Saiute to Women Veterans, a time for all veterans groups and
California citizens to acknowledge the contrib~itions made by women veterans.
PASSED AND ADOPTEI] this 18th day of October, 7 983 by the following
vote:
AYES: Supervisors Saraceni, Wheeler, A4oseley, Fuiton and Chair polan.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
