RESOLUTION OF TNE BUTTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN SUPPORT OF HR 4170
REMOVING EMPLOYE3t PICKUP PROVISIOf~S ON SOCIAL SECURITY PAYROLL CONTRIBUTIGNS
WHEREAS, the United 5tates Congress passed legislation requ~ring
Butte County and other agencies to pay Social Security on retirement system
contributions; and
WHEREAS, such legislation would become effective January 1, 1984
and could cost Butte County approximate]y $30,000 per year from general
funds; and
WHEREAS, the Public Employees Retirement System is presently
addressing the task of support for the passage of HR 4170 which is presently
being heTd in the House Rules Committee for a non related issue, and the
PERS wishes to expedite the passage of the Social Security provision; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors ~vishes to lend full support
to tf~at effort.
PIOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that:
i. The Butte County Board of Supervisors lends its wholehearted
support for the passage of HR 4170 Socia1 Security related provisions to
eliminate the employer pickup issue from ~hat bi11; and
2. Requests tha~ efforts be made to separate these provisions
from HR 4170 to be handled as separate legis1ation if the bill is to be
held up for provisians other than Social Security related issues.
