RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION
OF ANDY BENNETT
Kesolufion No. 84-2 0
WHEREAS, on January 19, 1984, Andy Bennett, working as a
Paid Call Firefighter for the Durham Volunteer Fire Company, responded
to a water rescue call located at Ord Ferry Road, just west of Lower
River Road; and
WHEREAS, one of the two victims was trapped on the roof of
a four-wheel drive truck as water rushed through the windows, and
the other was washed downstream and had been clinging to limbs of a
tree with the lower half of his body immersed in freezing cold water
for approximately 2-1/2 hours; and
WHEREAS, in order to rescue the victim in the water first
as he had no feeling in his limbs and was near total exhaustion due
to exposure, it was necessary for Andy Sennett to jump into the
freezing cold water, swim out to the victim and use his life line to
tie the victim to a tree.

WHEREAS, Andy Bennett waited with the victim until Search
and Rescue personnel arrived with a boat whereby rescue could be '
made on the victim in the water and the victim trapped on the roof
of the truck;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board, on its own
behalf, and on behalf of the residents of the County of Butte,
expresses its deepest appreciation to Andy Bennett for his unselfish
courage and bravery in performing this rescue operation.
