HomeMy WebLinkAbout84-0891 ~,. ~-QY~, - G'; k c i :~k: ~~ :v~. ~~°~ ~ ~~ BOARD Off' SUPERVISORS ' ~~ CO~WTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALlI-ORNEA tNe Kesolufion No. ea-$9 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING CALIFORNIA NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTH AND NATTONAL POLICE WEEK WHEREAS, crime and fear of crime continue to affect the lives of all Californians; and WHEREAS, crime rates remain high in our state and nation despite intensified law enforcement efforts; and WHEREAS, improved law enforcement techniques and increased citizen involvement are necessary to insure reduction of the crime rate in communities across the country; and WHEREAS, citizens have participated in Neighborhood Watch, a mutual protection program, for almost 20 years; and WHEREAS, law enforcement officials attribute reductions in crime to increased public awareness and involvement in Neighborhood Watch programs; and WHEREAS, the purpose of California Neighborhood Watch Month is to recognize the work and impact of over 50,000 Neighborhood Watch groups currently operating in California; and WHEREAS, there is a need for greater and broader involvement of California citizens in Neighborhood Watch through the development of new programs; and WHEREAS, National Police Week was esta67ished by Presidential Proclamation in 1960 to recognize the hazardous work, duties, and responsibilities of our nation's pease officers; and WHEREAS, in conjunction with this week, May 15 is observed each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day to commemorate the sacrifices and commitment of the officers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors declares the month of May as "California Neighborhood t~Iatch Month." BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors declares the week of Play 13-19, 1984 as "National Police hfeek" and May 15, 1984 as "Peace Officers Memorial Day."
