HomeMy WebLinkAbout84-090.~,'xs~,rF~R ~s ~'~ ~~U' ,av :~. ~'~:~, ~ BOARD OF SUPER~'1SORS ' ** ~ ' '~+ C~71_INTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CAL!FQRN~f1 ~~~ ; ~~ yea • ~,~ ~ ~. ~ n ,J '~;, 4'~77r1~ Kesolufion No. e4-9o r~=r~~r.r RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING ALCOHOLISM ACTION WEEK 1984: ACTION FOR YOUTH WHEREAS, alcoholism has been declared America's number one drug problem by a United States Health Commission, afflicting an estimated ten million persons in the nation; and 4JHEREAS, in the State of California more than 1.5 million suffer from the disease of alcoholism which affects more than five million family members; and WHEREAS, alcoholism is a devastating disease, posing a serious hea~7th problem in every community, having tragic affects on people in every area of public and private life, and adverse economic consequences; and WHEREAS, youth and their futures are in jeopardy because of the misuse of alcohol which is characterized in California 6y an increasing death toll due to drunk driving and by rapidly increased alcoholism among youth; and WHEREAS, the Alcoholism Council of California, together with the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, and thirty-four affiliated councils throughout the state, and with allied educational, treatment, government, business, labor, religious and service groups, are .joining in communities throughout California to observe "Alcoholism Action Week 1984: Action for Youth," from June 11 through June 15, 1984; and WHEREAS, only through information and education, can the public be alerted to the critical nature of alcoholism and be informed of existing successful programs of rehabilitation and prevention for the alcoholics and their familes. NOW, THEREFOP,E, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board afi Supervisors declares the week of June 71 through 15, 1984 as "Alcoholism Action inieek 1984: Action for Youth." BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors urges all California citizens to support-and encourage their local alcoholism councils and public and private agencies in their efforts against the disease of alcoholism.
