A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 95, CONCERNING
CONSTRUCTION OF A MEDIUM SECURITY FACILITY IN DEL NORTE COUNTY
WHEREAS, Del Norte County citizens have conducted several informal
polls to attract the Department of Corrections to study the feasibility of
constructing a new Department of Corrections medium security facility within
Del Norte County; and
WHEREAS, the results of those polls indicate over 85~ of the citizens
support the Department of Corrections locating a facility in Del Norte County;
and
WHEREAS, the Unified School District has indicated their ability to
handle additional students; the City of Crescent City has indicated their support
and ability to provide utilities; and local volunteer fire departments have
indicated their support for such a facility in the vicinity of Crescent City; and
WHEREAS, the citizens have formed a Citizens' Steering Committee to
publicize and respond to comments from the public through service club presenta-
tions and newspaper coverage; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Corrections has completed a preliminary site
evaluation study which indicates there are sites suitable for construction of a
medium security facility in the vicinity of Crescent City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte, State of California, that the construction of a medium security
facility within the County of Del Norte is a desirable objective; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the State Legislature
and the Department of Corrections are urged to give every consideration to
locating such a facility in the County of Del Norte, in the vicinity of
Crescent City, by passing Senate Bill 95, as amended.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of February, 1985, by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, McInturf, McLaughlin, Wheeler and
Chairman Fulton
