SUPPORT FOR THE ESTRBLiSHMENT OF A MUSEUM
OF AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY BY THE CALIFORNIA VEHICLE FOUNDATION
WHEREAS, the development of the State of California in this century
has been closely linked to the motor vehicle, even to the location and
development of many of its major cities; and
WHEREAS, i t i s impossible to understand the hi story of thi s State
without understanding the role of the automobile and its contribution to
the civic, commercial, and recreational development of the State; and
WHEREAS, the CALIFORNIA VEHICLE FOUNDATION, a non-profit, publicly
supported, tax exempt corporation was created in 1982 far the purpose of
establishing a museum of automotive history, education, and preservation
in the State's Capitol; and
WHEREAS, the CALIFORNIA VEHICLE FOUNDATION has already developed
a nucleus of classic automobiles which require housing and is continuing
to build its collection; and
WHEREAS, the California State Department of Transportation
(Ca7trans} has offered old maps, photographs, models, old highway and
antique maintenance equipment for display in the proposed museum; and
WHEREAS, such a museum would benefit a71 residents of the State,
especially school children learning the history of California; and
WHEREAS, the endorsement of the establishment of such a museum
by public officials throughout the State could have a favorable effect
on the Foundation's ability to raise funds and acquire additional objects
for display in the museum;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors,
County of Butte, State of California, commends the CALIFORNIA VEHICLE
FOUNDATION for its endeavors to create a motor vehicle museum in the State's
Capitol and encourages the citizens of California to lend their encouragement
and support to this effort.
Passed and adopted this 6th day of August 1985 by
the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, McInturf, McLaughlin, Wheeler and Chairman Fulton
NOES: None
