STATE OF CALEFORNIA _ ,-. +` _ aC ~ ~ ~~+~ ~~~ t~~s ~~~ ~;. ~ "..,: ~P~ Resolufion No. s6~zz RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING FE$RUARY 22 - MARCH 31, 1986 AS FAMILY COMMUNICATION WEEKS WHEREAS, parents are the mast important teachers in their children's lives in aTl areas including sharing values and learning about adolescent development as an integral part of normal life; and WHEREAS, the family Communication Program has been awarded a State Department of Health Services grant to conduct a community based, multimedia outreach project focusing attention on the importance of family communication to curb the rising number of unplanned teenage pregnancies; and WHEREAS, activities and events will be concentrated in Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Tehama and Trinity Counties from February through March; and WHEREAS, the goals and objectives of the Family Communication Program are 1) to increase the quality and quantity of verbal communication between parents and their children about human sexuality in terms of family values in the home; and 2) to heighten parent/child awareness about various community resources available to assist them in becoming better communicators; and 3) to involve diverse community organizations including churches, educational, civic, medical and social service groups in sponsoring workshops and events for parents and/or children; and 4) to address the problem of unintended teenage pregnancies through a cooperative effort, aimed at supporting the family unit in its task of helping adolescents make wiser decisions through improved family communication about sensitive subjects and family values in the home. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Butte County Board of Supervisors proclaims February 22 through March 31, 1986, "Family Communication Weeks" and urges all Butte County citizens to participate in and support upcoming activities, workshops and media coverage that will take place during this period. _2_ PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, this 4th day of February, 1986, by the followi ng vote: AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Fulton, McInturf, Wheeler and Chairman McLaughlin NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None C _7.... _ i~ 1!.
