RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING TiiE WEEK OF APRIL 13-19, 1986 AS
"CELEBRATION OF THE AMERICAS"
WHEREAS, the Hispanic Association for the Community and Education
(RACE) has been formed as a community service organization concerned
with the promotion of educational and cultural activities; and
WHEREAS, RACE encourages and aids hispanic-high school and college
students to pursue higher education; and
WHEREAS, RACE attracts members from the professional community,
including administrators from area schools, and state and local agencies,
as well as working people throughout the north state; and
WHEREAS, each year RACE awards scholarships to Butte College
and California State University, Chico, students; and
IdHEREAS, the monies for the scholarships are generated by the
annual dance, corporate donations and various fundraisers; and
WHEREAS, HALE has been involved in community activities, such
as the celebration of Pan American Day, with a festive dance, "Baffle
de las Americas," or "A Celebration of the Americas."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors,
County of Butte, State of California, that it hereby proclaims the week
of April 13-19, 1986 as 'Celebration of the Americas" in recognition
of the planned activities of the Hispanic Association for the Community
and Education (RACE) in the furtherance of educational and cultural
activities for hispanic high school and college students.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE Butte County Board of Supervisors
this 1st day of April, 1986, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Fulton, McInturf, Wheeler and Chairman McLaughlin

NOT VOTING: None
