RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL 1986 AS
CHILD ABUSE PRI=YENTION MONTH
WHEREAS, the future of our nation depends upon the development of
our young people; and
WHEREAS, child development is threatened by an alarming increase
in the number of reported and unreported child ahuse cases; and
WHEREAS, child abuse is a serious and devastating crime that continues
to plague our nation and threatens to destroy .the very foundations of American
society; and
WIIEREAS, through endeavors of education and prevention, significant:
.progress has been made in discovering, treating and preventing this incidiou5
crime; and
'rlHEREAS, despite this progress, we must continue to work together
in our communities, in this state and throughout the nation to protect this
most precious but vulnerable segment of society from this dangerous problem;
and
WHEREAS, the month of April is nationally proclaimed Child Abuse
Prevention ~ionth to promote continued ouhlic awareness of the seriousness of
this problem and the need to agressiveiy pursue solutions;
N0~1, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors
that they do hereby proclaim April 1986 as Child Abuse Prevention P4onth and
urge all of its citizens to utilize this period to learn to better understand,
recognize, and respond to this gti°ievous problem; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board commends the Exchange Clubs
of Butte County for providing such information to our people and urge full
public support of their successful effort, in concert with all other Exchange
Clubs in America and their Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, to establish
a nationwide network of Child Abuse Prevention Centers where abusing parents
and their children are at last finding new hope and effective help.
