RESOLUTION OF THE BUTTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
UR6IN6 SUPPORT OF ASSEMBLY BILL 3015 BY ASSEMBLYMEMBER FARR
WHEREAS, the general purpose revenues of rural counties has not
kept pace with the growth in mandated welfare and criminal justice costs;
and
WHEREAS, welfare and the criminal justice system cast increases
have necessitated cuts in local option programs such as police, fire and
libraries; and
WHEREAS, the residents of rural counties may desire a level of
police, fire and library services higher than that available with current
general purpose revenues.
WHEREAS, sales tax is a major portion of the counties general
purpose revenues; and
WHEREAS, counties currently do not have the authority to levy
additional sales tax regardless of local voter approval; and
WHEREAS, AB 3015 by Assemblymember Farr would provide such authority
to counties of less than 350,000 population upon majority approval of voters.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors supports Assembly Bill 3015 by Assemblymember Farr which would
allow counties of less than 350,000 population to propose a one-half cent
addition to the sales tax.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this lst day of July 1986 by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Fulton, Mclnturf, Wheeler and Chairman McLaughlin
NOES: Nane

NOT VOTING: None
