RESOLUTION OF THE BUTTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
REQUESTING A UNITED STATES POSTAGE STAMP COPiPiEMORATING
i50 YEARS OF UNIFORMITY IN WEIGHTS AND MEASURES LAW
WHEREAS, Weights and Measures has been used in every occupation of human
endeavor; and
WWEREAS, the scriptures state that true scales, true weights, true
measures, dry and liquid, shall not pervert justice; and.
WHEREAS, the scriptures state that mankind shall have a perfect weight,
a perfect and just measure; and
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America gave Congress
the power to fix the Standard of Weights and Pleasures; and
WHEREAS, in the year 1838, the Secretary of the Treasury did deliver
to the Governor of each State in the Union, a complete copy of all Weights and
Measures adapted as Standards, and did thereby establish Uniformity in Weights
and Measures Law; and
WHEREAS, Uniformity in Weights and Measures Law has been instrumental
in our nations agricultural and industrial development; and
WWEREAS, uniformity in Weights and Measures Law has assured equity in
the marketplace for consumer and merchant; and
WHEREAS, Uniformity in Weights and Measures Law has provided protection
equally to buyer and seller; and
WHEREAS, Uniformity in 4deights and pleasures Law has established
measurement accuracy nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the year 1988 marks the 150th Anniversary of Uniformity in
Weights and Measures Law in the United States of America;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
hereby requests the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee recommend to the Postmaster
General that a Postage Stamp be issued in 1988 commemorating 150 years of Uniformity
in Weights and pleasures Law in the United States of America.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors, State of
California, this 15th day of July 1986, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Fulton, McInturf and Chairman McLaughlin
NOES: None
ABSENT: Supervisor Wheeler
