HomeMy WebLinkAbout86-131RESOLUTION DECLARING OCTOBER 1986 AS NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION MONTH WHEREAS, crime and the fear of crime continue to be foremost in the minds of citizens and continue to cast a shadow of insecurity over the lives of Californians; and WHEREAS, there has been a 5~ increase in the crime rate, in the County of Butte; and WHEREAS, there is a need to promote utilization of strategies and proven methods of reducing crime through partnerships among government, law enforcement, the business community and the citizens of Butte County; and WHEREAS, it is essential for the citizens of Butte County to continue to support and encourage the involvement of all community members in effective crime prevention programs;. and WHEREAS, during the month of October> 1986, we observe California Domestic Violence Awareness Week, September 28 - October 4, to increase public awareness of this serious problem affecting people of all ages, races and economic levels; and WHEREAS, California Sexual Violence Awareness Week, October 5-11, allows us to focus on the awareness, education and prevention of such crimes that are specifically degrading to humanity; and WHEREAS, California Drug Abuse Awareness Week> October 12-18, will promote drug abuse education so that our youth and adults will recognize their strengths, self esteem and individuality through a drug free society; and WHEREAS, California Safe Schools Week, October 19-25, provides an opportunity for school officials, law enforcement officials and students to identify effective prevention programs and solutions to school crime and violence; and - 2~ WHEREAS, California Delinquency Prevention Week, October 26 November 1, will highlight the positive impact and influence of programs which address youth crime and the importance of delinquency prevention; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby declare October 1986 as "Crime Prevention Plonth" in Butte County and urge all citizens to participate in this nationwide effort to prevent crime.
