PROCLAPIATION OF THE BUTTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERYI50RS
WHEREAS, Butte County and other counties in California are facing extreme
financial distress; and
WHEREAS, a major cause of these financial difficulties is the rapidly
escalating cost of state mandated welfare, health and criminal justice systems;
and
WHEREAS, Butte County has suffered severe. cutbacks in vital services
including layoffs of sheriff's deputies and closure of libraries and fire stations;
and
WHEREAS, 87.8 of the voters in Butte County voted for Measure A;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors, on behalf of the voters of Butte County, does hereby petition the
Governor and the Legislature of the State of California to implement the will
of the people as manifest by pleasure A and save high priority 1oca1 services such
as police, fire, roads and libraries; and
FURTHERMORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that Butte County urgently requests the
Governor and Legislature to adopt a comprehensive program to solve county fiscal
problems including funding of the courts, a shift of one-quarter cent sales tax
and stabilization of mandated program expenditures.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 3rd day of February 1987 by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Fulton, McInturf, McLaughlin, Vercruse and Chair Dolan
