BUTTE, STATE, CAF GALIFC]RNIA "°" Resolution No. s7-14A ~t+' G'OUN'S~ "t«~ #a:.:.•• RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF NAMING THE BRIDGE EXTENDING STATE ROUTE 32 ACROSS THE SACRA~1ENT0 RIVER BET4JEEN GLENN AND BUTTE COUNTIES AS THE "GIANELLA BRIDGE" AND OF ERECTING A PLAQUE THEREON RECOGNIZING THE EFFORTS OF SENATOR RAY JOHNSON WHEREAS, citizens of Butte and Glenn Counties early recognized the mutual benefit of linking the entities with a means of spanning the Sacramento River; and WHEREAS, historical records relate that Vincenzo Gianella provided vitally needed influence and mediation to resolve differences and initiate cooperative planning for construction of a bridge joining the two counties near Hamilton City; and {WHEREAS, the steel swing span designed by John B. Leonard and cammanly known as "The Gianella Bridge" locally, has served the interests of agricultural, commercial,. and pleasure travelers from its completion in 1910; and WHEREAS, a .new structure is replacing this oldest swing span moveable bridge in the state system at essentially the same location; and WHEREAS, Vincenzo Gianella's contribution to the orderly development and progress of this region is worthy of permanent, public recognition; and WHEREAS, it is also the desire of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte to recognize the efforts of Senator Ray Johnson in pursuit of the erection of the aforesaid bridge. N04J, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte that the new bridge extending State Route 32 across the Sacramento River between Butte and Glenn Counties should be identified by the State of California, its agencies, and political subdivisions as the "The Gianella Bridge." BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an appropriate sign be installed at the site to notify the public of this identification. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a plaque be erected on or near the said bridge in recognition of Senator Ray Johnson and his efforts in seeing that the bridge be erected. -2- PASSED AND ADOPTED this 3rd day of February, 1987 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors McInturf, Uercruse and Chair Dolan NOES: Supervisors McLaughlin and Fulton ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None BANE DOLAN, Chair of the Butte County Board of Supervisors ATTEST: MaRTIT~ J.
