Resolufion No. 87-59
RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MENTAL HEALTH MONTH
WHEREAS, Butte County P9ental Health has provided services for citizens
of Butte County since 1967; therefore the 20th Anniversary of Mental Health Services
in Butte County is celebrated in 1987; and
WHEREAS, in 1957 the California Legislature enacted the Short-Doyle Act
enabling county mental health programs to provide comprehensive community based
services to all persons regardless of ability to pay; and
WHEREAS, community mental health programs serve an increasing number of
clients with serious illness, including schizophrenia and depression ;. and
WHEREAS, in one out of every three American families there is a member
with some type of mental illness; and
WHEREAS, community mental health programs have significantly reduced
admission rates to State institutions; and
WHEREAS, community mental health programs have an integral component
involving citizens through local mental health advisory boards, who ensure that
the mental health needs of the community are being met.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte designates May 1.987 as dental Health Month and as the 20th Anniversary
of the Butte County Mental Health Services, to be observed with a variety of community
programs and activities.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, State
of California this 21st day of April, 1987 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Fulton, McINturf, McLaughlin, Vercruse and Chair Dolan
