RESOLUTION DEDICATING A PORTION OF UNDO CHANNEL AS "MERCER PARK"
WHEREAS, Gene Mercer has provided over 50 years of official and
unofficial services to the residents of Butte County in preserving and
enhancing our natural resources; and
WHEREAS, Gene Mercer has offered encouragement to local residents to
become involved in preservation and enhancement and use of our natural
resources; and
WHEREAS, during Gene Mercer tenure as a fish and game warden, Lindo
Channel was a major viable salmon spawning stream; and
WHEREAS, Gene Mercer, as a fish and game warden, was instrumental in
the installation of a fish ladder in the One~Mile Dam area and for another
fish ladder installed in Upper Bidwell Park; and
WHEREAS, in his retirement Gene Mercer has continued to be active in
issues concerning methods in which man and nature may coexist, with an
emphasis on streams and fisheries; and
WHEREAS, for many years following his retirement Gene Mercer served
as Secretary to the Butte County Fish and Game Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of
Supervisors in recognition of the many achievements attained by Gene Mercer
and the goodwill extended by Gene Mercer it is fitting that an enhanced
section of Lindo Channel between the Mangrove Avenue bridge westerly to the
California Water Service pump on the north bank be dedicated and named "Mercer
Grove."

this 5th day of May, 1987, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Fulton, McInturf, McLaughlin, Vercruse and
Chair Dolan
