WHEREAS, Richard E. Fitzgerald joined the California Highway Patrol
on July 1, 1960; and
WHEREAS, following graduation from the CHP Academy, Patrolman
Fitzgerald was assigned to road patrol in the San Jose area; and
WHEREAS, in November 1964 Patrolman Fitzgerald was transferred to
the Yuba/Butter area where he performed road patrols and served as the Area
Special Duty Officer; and
WHEREAS, from 1973-1983 Officer Fitzgerald worked at the California
Highway Patrol office in Sacramento. During his tenure there he was assigned
a variety of duties including Administrative Assistant, Valley Division; Air
Operations Coordinator; Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Coordinator; and Field
Operations Sergeant. Also during this time Patrolman Fitzgerald was promoted
to the rank of Sergeant and then to the rank of Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, in November 1983 Lieutenant Fitzgerald became the Commander
of the CHP office in Oroville; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Fitzgerald has served as Chairperson of the
Northern California Law Enforcement Administrators Council; a member of the
Butte County Criminal Justice Training Center Advisory Committee; and part-time
Administration of Justice instructor at Yuba and Community Colleges; and
WHEREAS, Richard E. Fitzgerald retired from the California-Highway
Patrol on April 30, 1987 after serving the citizens of the State of California
for more than 26 years.
NOW, THERE BE TT RESOLVED, that this Board, on its behalf and an
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, express sincere appreciation
for the unselfish dedication and devotion displayed by Richard E. Fitzgerald
during the 26 plus years he has served the citizens of the State of Calfornia.
