RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION AND COMMENDATION
WHEREAS, a liquid petroleum gas fire of spectacular proportions occurred
at the Koppers Company on the morning of April 6, 1987; and
WHEREAS, the uncontrolled fire posed a potential and significant threat
to property, health and human safety; and
WHEREAS, the actions of h1eT Wangberg, Koppers Company employee and
volunteer fireman, contributed immensely to the early containment of the fire
and its source of fuel being exhausted; and
WHEREAS, early containment and extinguishment of the fire eliminated
the possibility of explosions that could have devastated property, caused unknown
health hazards and possible Toss of human life.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte does herewith express our deep gratitude and, likewise, commend
Mel Wangberg, who at considerable personal risk, took selfless and courageous
actions that immeasureably benefited many of the citizens of this county.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of June, 1987 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Fulton, P1clnturf, McLaughTin, Vercruse and Chair Dolan
