Resolution No. 87-100
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF RADAR SPEED ENFORCEMENT
AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE INVENTORY
WHEREAS, The Butte County Board of Supervisors is aware of, and concerned
about, serious traffic safety problems in many areas of the County; and
WHEREAS, excessive speed is a primary collision factor in the vast majority
of traffic accidents in the County; and
WHEREAS, the California Highway Patrol has been unable effectively to
control speeding violations through conventional enforcement methods, i.e., in-
view patrol and pacing speeders with patrol vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors believes that the use of
radar is an effective tool for reducing speeding on roads in Butte County and,
thereby, accidents; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors supports improvements in
traffic safety on the County road system; and
WHEREAS, a Traffic Control Device Inventory will improve traffic safety
on the County road system;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
requests the California Highway Patrol to utilize radar speed enforcement on
designated roadways with excessive speed violations and/or high accident frequen-
Gies throughout Butte County;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby
supports the implementation of a Traffic Control Device Inventory system for the
County road system.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte,
State of California, this 16th. day of June 1987, by the
following vote:
