Resolufion No. 87-106
RESOLUTION REC06NIZING BUTTE COLLEGE DAY
WHEREAS, the Sutte Community College District will be 20 years old
July 1, 1967 having been approved by voters November 8, 1966 with five men elected
to the Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, it was then known as a junior college district which became legally
operational July 1, 1967 with a few classes in vocational nursing, fire science and
law enforcement offered in various communities; and
WHEREAS, September 23, 1968 the new college opened its doors on a temporary
campus located in the old Durham High School; and
WHEREAS, a permanent 940 acre site was chosen and building begun in 1972
at Pentz and Clark Roads - midway between Chico, OroviTle and Paradise; and
WHEREAS, the present campus was dedicated in September 1974 and opened its
doors to 1,994 students that month; and
WHEREAS, Glenn County voters approved annexation into the district in 1975;
and
WHEREAS, The Butte Community College District continues to serve the residents
of Butte and Glenn Counties with a wide variety of educational services; and
WHEREAS, this fall students will have more than 50 vocational programs to
choose from as well as a full schedule of general education classes which transfer
to four-year colleges; and
WHEREAS, the Butte Community College District will host an open house
September 12, 1987.
NOW, TWEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that
they proclaim September 12, 1987 Butte Community College Day and urge all residents
to visit the campus that day and discover the many programs and services available
to all members of the community.
